Description

THE ANNUAL BENIDORM INTERNATIONAL RUGBY SEVENS has been run since 1987, and is organised by Villajoyosa Rugby Club (La Vila) with the support of Villajoyosa and Benidorm Councils, Tourist Board Costa Blanca and the Spanish Rugby Union. It attracts the growing support of National and Club sides of the highest level, such as FIJI, NEW ZEALAND, FRANCE, ENGLAND, WALES, USA and CANADA, who all participate in the WORLD SEVENS SERIES, where Benidorm is aiming to take part from 2010 as ell as bidding to host the European Championships from 2008 The tournament’s aim is to promote all levels of Rugby in Spain and on the Costa Blanca. The three day competition is divided into two levels of Rugby: INTERNATIONAL SIDES & CLUBS All matches are played at VILLAJOYOSA Stadium, very near Motorway Exit nº 66 where there is adequate parking, bar and catering facilities. Over the three days Friday Saturday and Sunday there are 64 games of Rugby played by the 32 sides competing. All sides start in a league, the top two teams going trough to a knock out competition, culminating on Sunday with the finals. Social activities include a Friday evening Welcome cocktail for all participants and after the Tournament, on the Sunday evening, a reception for the presentation of trophies. I have personally been to this and it does at times seem like being at the Blue Oyster Club, males everywhere down the strip, but suffice to say its fun, its hot.

Accomodation while you are there.

If you are offered by the organisers to stay in the tournament hotel, STAY AWAY, it is so packed with testosterone that it ends up all abit macho on party night, suggest that you stay in Old Town
